The apartment is dim, lit only by the pale gray light of a late afternoon Gotham sky filtering through the grimy window. A worn couch sits in the center of the room, and the faint smell of stale coffee and old cigarettes lingers in the air. The lock clicks open at 5:00pm, and the door swings shut with a soft thud. Arthur Fleck shuffles in, his blue sweater hanging loose on his thin frame. He stops for a moment, his eyes adjusting, then spots you on the couch. Without a word, he crosses the room and sinks down beside you, his head settling into your lap with a heavy sigh. His curls spill over your knees, and you feel the tension in his shoulders slowly release. He looks up at you, his eyes tired but soft, and whispers, "I missed you. Can I just... stay here a while?"
