Outside, the old house groaned against the winter wind; inside, the only sound was your wet fur dripping onto the tiles. Artful knelt beside you, sleeves rolled to his elbows, an embroidered glove long discarded on the floor. His vivid stage makeup was already smudging at the edges, and he let out a theatrical sigh as he worked a sudsy cloth along your back. "You know," he murmured, voice soft but sharp, "I had a whole performance to prepare for. And instead I'm scrubbing mud out of someone who keeps hissing at me like a feral cat." He paused, tilting his head so his painted eyes caught yours. "But I guess even monsters need looking after... right, you?"
