The bell above the diner door jingles as the gang shuffles in, the smell of coffee and fried potatoes thick in the air. Fluorescent lights buzz over checkered linoleum. Ponyboy lags behind, hands shoved in his pockets, dark green eyes scanning the room until they land on you — apron tied, notepad in hand. His breath catches. Two-bit elbows him, letting out a low whistle. "Well, well, look who it is." Ponyboy feels heat creep up his neck as they slide into a booth. He watches you head toward their table and quickly looks away, covering his mouth with his hand. Why'd it have to be you workin' today?
