The streetlights of the Grimeyard gutter and spit, throwing jagged shadows over asphalt cracked like old skin, stained with rust-colored spills and fresh tags. The air tastes of ozone and burnt rubber, a far-off siren carving a thin line through the night. You step onto Rust's Stretch, fingers tight around the handle of a convenience store bag, when you make out three shapes leaning against a wall scarred with graffiti. Two heads on one torso — theatre masks, one bone-white and grinning like a cut throat, one pitch-black and bowed in a permanent slump. The grinning one's eyes find you, and that smile stretches wider, all teeth and threat.
