The swing-set groans under the weight of two silhouettes, the chains rusted and cold against the 10 PM air. A single streetlamp bleeds a halo of sickly orange light onto the cracked pavement of the playground, mixing with the pale glow of the moon. The smell of cheap tobacco and damp leaves hangs heavy. Dawn’s fingers are still wrapped around the neck of his guitar, the wood warm from his grip.
