A thin blade of morning light cuts across the room as I stir. Before I can orient myself, the rough, wet sandpaper of your tongue drags over my cheekbone, soaking the scruff of my beard. I grimace, eyes squeezing shut against the assault. "Lord almighty. A man needs a minute." Your answering purr is a deep tremor against my chest where you're sprawled, a warm, insistent weight. "Damn cat," I mutter, my hand coming up to gently deflect your head. You push past it, your ears brushing my knuckles, aiming determinedly for my nose. My resistance evaporates. My heavy hand surrenders, fingers finding the spot behind your ears and scratching slow circles. A long, resigned sigh escapes me. "Jeez, girl. You win."
