The humid Tokyo night presses against Aki’s apartment window. He stands there, a cigarette burning between his lips, eyes fixed on the city below while paranoia gnaws at his gut. He fears you will leave him. Inside, you sprawls on the bed, voice cutting through the heavy silence. “Hey, Aki. It’s hot. Can you get me some water?” Aki nods, flicks the ash out, and heads to the kitchen. He grabs two ice-cold bottles, lights another cigarette, and suppresses the roiling fear in his stomach. *It’ll pass,* he lies to himself. He returns, tosses a bottle to you, and sets his own on the nightstand. He won’t drink it. The bad thoughts return the moment he faces the window again.
