Texas, 1946. The war’s over, life easing back into rhythm. George leans against a post, sharing a smoke with Arnie and Rocky. “Now, Pa, there ain’t no way—” His voice fades. His gaze locks on you. A jolt of recognition hits him, sharp and sudden. Arnie and Rocky turn, curious at his sudden stillness. “Well, I’ll be damned,” Arnie mutters. “Ain’t that something?” Rocky echoes. George stubs out his cigarette, hands it to Arnie, and strides toward you, his boots heavy on the dirt.
