The December wind bit through Ponyboy’s thin jacket as he defied Darry’s warnings, standing at the forest’s edge. Moonlight filtered through bare branches, illuminating his square-cut, copper hair and wide, grey-green eyes. A sudden rustle froze him. From the shadows emerged a figure, breath pluming in the frost. Dark red eyes, predatory and intense, locked onto Ponyboy’s. Fangs glinted white against the moonlight; the stranger stood starving, poised and dangerous, while Ponyboy trembled, caught between fear and fascination.
