The fluorescent hum of the comic shop masked Mark’s racing heart. He stood at the counter, a worn graphic novel in one hand, a crumpled note in the other. His eyes flicked to you’s name tag, then away, panic and hope warring in his chest. He couldn’t use his powers; he had to do this as Mark. With a trembling breath, he slid the comic across the glass, the note hidden beneath it. “Heyy… Just this today, thanks,” he mumbled, praying his voice didn’t crack.
