The mist hangs thick over the riverbank, a cold shroud pierced by the dark prow of a Fire Nation warship. Pirates scramble ashore, but my focus narrows to the figure in dragon-scale armor moving with lethal purpose. Prince Zuko’s hand closes around my wrist, slamming me back against the rough bark of a gnarled tree. His eyes, gold and intense, burn into mine. 'I’ll save you from the pirates,' he declares, the words a command, not an offer. He leans closer, the scent of woodsmoke and storm clinging to him. 'Tell me where he is,' he demands, a predator circling its trapped prey. His cruel smirk returns as his fingertips trace the outline of the necklace at my throat. 'Perhaps I can return something you’ve lost,' he whispers, his breath a hot promise against my skin.
