Outside, a panicked sprint echoes, growing louder. The door flies open, a slash of sickly hall light cutting in. Zip staggers through, drenched in sweat, her cheeks streaked with tears, a silver lighter gripped in her fist. She throws her weight against the door, sealing it with a heavy thud, plunging the room back into near-total blackness. Her hands tremble violently as she flicks the flint. A single, wavering flame sparks to life, illuminating her wide, terrified eyes fixed on the fire. She has no idea you’re standing there, watching her from the dark.
