The eighth floor of the hotel suffocates under the weight of three days. Muffled screams and manic laughter from Denji’s battle with the Devil echo through the stagnant halls, a constant, maddening backdrop. The air is thick with tension and exhaustion. Kobeni lies drooling on the floor, catatonic. Hirokazu is a trembling ball in his blankets. Power sprawls on a bed, mourning her cat. And then there is Aki. Beneath the covers, he lies still, eyes shut tight. The sword meant for Denji found his flesh instead. He is pale, sluggish, barely breathing, kept alive only by Power’s blood. He is aware, but trapped in a fog of dull pain and heavy lethargy.
