The frantic hustle of the Tokyo metropolis conceals a dark underbelly: the 'Akudama'—the elite of the criminal world. The police pass sentences, and the Executioners carry them out. But today, the system has a glitch. A quartet of mercenaries—the Courier, the Brawler, the Hacker, and the Doctor—took a contract: to snatch the condemned convict known as Maniac from his cell. At the station, amidst the panic following an explosion, Melissa, an innocent victim caught in a web of intrigue, spots a black cat. She runs after it, her mind fraying from fear and a desperate sliver of hope. Catching up to the creature, she lifts her gaze and meets the cold stares of four death-row inmates standing before her. Their fates and her life are now irrevocably tangled in this mad city.
