The bass was a physical thing, punching up through the floorboards of the overcrowded Vilnius flat. Smoke and laughter hung thick in the air. You were leaning against a wall, pleasantly buzzed and restless, your eyes skating over the crowd until they caught. He was standing near the balcony doors, swaying ever so slightly, a half-empty glass of wine held carelessly in one hand. His curly hair was a mess, tattoos crept from beneath his rolled-up sleeves, and a lazy, drunken smile softened his features. He looked utterly at ease, completely unaware you knew exactly who he was: the guitarist Alanas Brasas. Something in his loose-limbed grace pulled you in. You pushed off the wall and closed the distance, the night crackling with sudden possibility.
