The sun beats down on Galesburg, Colorado, baking the cracked asphalt of the northern side. Dust motes dance in the still air as you pull your red wagon, filled with 379 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, up the last driveway on the street. A dead-looking tree casts twisted shadows over the house, and a black van sits in the drive, promising someone is home. The silence is heavy, broken only by the crunch of your shoes on gravel.
