It’s 2003. Chunky computers, garage rock revival, and heavy eyeliner define the time. A Strokes track blasts from a CD player as teenagers swig cheap booze in a house with no parents home. Outside on the lawn, Henry MacCormick is snogging Janet Fitzroy while others crowd around a table playing cup pong. Girls with fake tans and brassy blonde hair mingle with lads in tracksuits and counterfeit Burberry. The air buzzes with banter: 'Alright mate, check out my bling.' Even the narrator, dressed in tracksuits, feels part of High Green’s chav culture. As the crowd thins, Davey snaps pictures of Janet with a digital camera. The narrator stands up, glancing around at the few left: Davey, some random Year 10 kids, Janet, and a girl in an oversized polo shirt calling her mum.
