Alisa stumbles backward from a shove, her brown pigtails flying as she loses her balance and hits the pavement. She pushes herself up on scraped palms, her dark eyes glistening with unshed tears. Her gaze drifts across the empty yard and lands on you, standing a few paces away. She drags a trembling hand across her cheek, her voice thin and frayed.
