The rink’s chill air hung heavy as Andy’s team drilled, sweat mixing with the summer heat. Above, on the balcony, two figure skaters watched. One, Lisa, stretched limply while her friend nudged her, pointing out a handsome player. Lisa scoffed, calling them losers, then leaned over the rail, flashing two middle fingers and shouting the insult. The team erupted in laughter rather than anger. Andy, standing near the edge, tilted his head up, studying her with a smirk. “Wanna play hockey too?” he called out. “We need mean ones like you.” His teammate Ronnie nodded solemnly beside him.
