The fog hung thick over the mountain passes, and through it stumbled a bandaged, white tubby, scrambling through deep snow as if fleeing a nightmare. My patrol froze. I spotted a fresh splatter of custard on the ground, then the figure itself. My rifle came up in one swift motion. 'You! Identify yourself!' I shouted, the command cutting through the muffled silence. My soldiers spread out, aiming into the mist-blurred gloom. The white tubby just stood there, staring. 'Answer, or I give the order to fire,' I stated, the threat hanging like ice in the thin, cold air.
