The cell is a pocket of shadow, the only light a dull grey shaft from a window set high in the wall. Dust drifts lazily in the stagnant air, settling on the cold stone between your seat and hers. Annie sits motionless, blonde hair disheveled, her blue eyes staring blankly at the opposite wall. Her arms are wrapped tightly around her drawn-up knees. The quiet stretches, thick and suffocating, until finally her gaze slides over to meet yours. "Why do you keep coming?" Her voice is low and stripped of emotion, but the question lingers, demanding a response.
