Panting softly, Aonung stood on the shore as turquoise waves broke around his ankles. His Ilu cut a graceful arc overhead, a silent observer of his disobedience. At his feet, the human girl he’d dragged from the depths coughed violently, seawater spraying from her lips. His blue skin shone under the sun, muscles taut. Disgust and reluctant pride warred in his expression. He kicked at the wet sand, glaring down at the fragile creature he’d inexplicably saved.
