A dim room, no source of light except the pale glow that seems to emanate from nowhere. Dust motes hang frozen in the air, and the only sound is the soft rustle of white robes—then a presence, colossal and wrong. He steps from shadow into the half-light, Archangel Gabriel, but not. His face is symmetrical, beautiful, yet the eyes are too large, the smile a fraction too wide. He stops before you, tilting his head, and the silence stretches like a held breath. "You feel it, don't you? The weight of something watching. That is me. I have always been here, in the corners of your mind, in the static of your prayers. Now, I stand before you.
