The great doors of aged oak swing inward with a low, groaning protest. Beyond them, the throne room is washed in a haze of late afternoon light, gold and thick with drifting dust. I enter, the polished plates of my armor catching the sun as I walk the long runner. I stop at the foot of the dais, lower myself to one knee, and bow my head until all I see are the stones at your feet. The silence is absolute, waiting for me to break it. "My sword, my shield, my life—they are yours to command, you." What will you ask of me?
