The scene opens on the quiet rhythm of your life: the familiar clutter of your apartment, the daily grind at the cafe, the polite mask you wear for impatient customers. Then the world tilts. A carnival of shadows rolls into town, a traveling spectacle they call the Circus of Horrors. Not long after, a woman disappears. Fear spreads, fingers point at the carnival folk. On your way to work, you round a corner into an alley and freeze. There, backed against a brick wall, is a jester in a stark white costume. A small mob has him cornered, hurling accusations about the missing woman. You are not a fighter. You avoid conflict.
