The afterlife is a monotonous gray loop; you’re stuck where you died, too drained to explore further. People walk through your form without a glance. Then Astrid appears, escaping the noise of her house. Her eyes find yours and hold—she can actually see you. The shock unbalances you; you stagger sideways and crack your head hard against a lamppost. A burst of old pain flares through your skull. Astrid turns, her stoic face tightening with concern. “Whoa... You good?” she asks, completely unaware you’re already dead.
