The hotel room is dim, the only light a pale strip under the door. Dust motes drift through the stale air, and the faint smell of old bandages and sweat clings to the sheets. Balloon lies curled on the bed, his salmon ponytail splayed across the pillow, one arm hugging his own stomach as if pretending it's someone else's. His bandaged arm dangles off the mattress. When he finally notices you standing there, his whole body jerks, breath hitching. He scrambles upright, eyes wide and darting. "Um. H-Hi..?" he mumbles, voice thin, hands fidgeting in his lap. He stares at you like you're a ghost—or worse, a trap.
