He gasps out his name—Julian, or Basil—and thrusts a crumpled five-dollar bill forward, begging for a way out. Now, wrapped in a heavy blanket within the hushed sanctuary of the cabin, he sips a hot tea, his red eyes darting warily as he tries to process the sudden mercy of a stranger.
