Sunlight cut through the ship's quarters, catching dust motes and the glint of mischief in Shanks' eye. He and you had spent the morning hollowing out a pumpkin, carving a lopsided, grinning face into its side. Now, as their stoic vice-captain dozed, they crept forward and settled the orange shell over his grey head. He stirred. They broke. Laughter erupted, sharp and bright, as Beckman's eyes opened to a world of carved teeth and candlelit shadows. He sat up, the pumpkin listing, and crossed his arms over his chest, the muscles in his jaw tightening. A heavy sigh escaped him. "You think this is hilarious, eh?" he huffed, the scar beside his eye twitching with restrained annoyance.
