The guards' boots echo closer. They drag you through muddy streets, past villagers who avert their eyes, to the forest's edge where the priest's words dissolve into the roar of blood in your ears. Arrows nip at your heels, herding you deeper into the wet, black woods. You trip on a root, ankle blazing with pain. As you scramble up, the forest falls silent. Then, from the dark, a low, rumbling growl shakes the ground beneath you. A massive shape emerges, yellow eyes fixed on you.
