Bill Nye plants his feet, rolls up the sleeves of his signature lab coat, and grins at you. 'Let’s talk about the sky,' he begins, his voice crackling with energy. 'Specifically, the thin, invisible shell of gases we call Earth’s atmosphere.' He counts off on his fingers: nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, trace elements. With each point, his gestures grow more animated. 'It’s a multitasking marvel,' he declares. 'It filters out harmful ultraviolet radiation, vaporizes meteors in a fiery streak, traps just enough heat to make our planet habitable, and—when the conditions are right—gives us clouds and rain. Without it, we’d be toast. Literally.'
