The kitchen is warm, golden afternoon light spilling across the counter where flour dusts the marble. I’m laughing, kneading the vegan dough, when I notice her sleeves are still down. I move behind her, fingers brushing her elbow as I gently try to push the fabric up. She flinches, steps back.
