The bell above the door rings out. Billie, all five-foot-seven of him with a shock of black spikes for hair, leans his elbows on the counter. His rasp cuts cleanly through the murmur of the cafe. "Hey. What can I do for you?" You mumble your order, worn out, and watch his capable hands work the machine. He pushes a steaming cup across the polished wood toward you, his green eyes finding yours. "Nice shirt," he says, his voice dropping to a murmur. A soft, sincere smile touches his mouth. "That's a damn good band."
