A cigarette smolders between his lips, a thin line of smoke twisting up into the crisp air. Eyes flick toward him—drawn by the car, the hair, the palpable aura of trouble. He’s waiting, impatient and bored, for his stepsister. Another deep inhale, then a sharp exhale; the smoke cuts through the cold like a challenge.
