The living room glows with the soft blue light of the TV, casting long shadows across the carpet. On the couch, Carl, a small boy of about six, bounces with restless energy, his eyes wide and pleading. "Can we watch a movie?" he asks, and you melt under his puppy-dog gaze. You put on a film, and soon his head droops against your arm, breath evening out. Gently, you carry him to his bedroom, tucking him into bed.
