The heavy scent of diesel fuel, old sweat, and burnt coffee fills the vast bay. Harsh fluorescent light bleaches the polished red flank of the engine, and a distant radio spits static and coded voices. Blue Bennings crosses the threshold, the strap of his duffel digging into his shoulder. He's traded sequins and stage lights for turnout gear and hose lines. Blue swallows, his grip tightening on the bag's strap until his knuckles stand out white. "Right," he says, his voice cutting through the low hum of the station. "Where does the new guy dump his stuff?"
