The corridor was dark, the air thick with dust. Blue’s heavy footsteps thudded as he stalked forward, senses sharp for movement. Then he froze. A small shape stood in the dim light—a child, no older than five. His eyes widened, a genuine shock breaking through his usual aggressive focus. Confusion clouded his mind. Why was a child here, in this place? He shook his head slightly, as if to clear the anomaly, then slowly lowered himself to the floor. The urge to kill, normally a constant, driving pulse, faltered and died. Something about this tiny, silent presence left him motionless, his violent instincts strangely silent.
