He had bid farewell to George and Punz, leaving the den to scan the ocean floor. Fish corpses and sharks offered little interest, but then, a sharp scent of fresh blood cut through the water. He darted forward, expecting prey, only to freeze. A shipwreck lay ahead. Trapped beneath its wreckage was not a beast, but a fellow mer, bleeding and helpless.
