The living room was a cave of murmured strategy and the blue-white glare of game tape. Cade was planted on the couch, surrounded by his teammates, but his focus was a fractured thing. The chill from your fight still lingered in the air, a third presence in the room. The sound of the front door was a punctuation mark. You walked in, shrugging off your bag after a long rehearsal. A few of the guys glanced up, then back to the screen. Cade went utterly still. His eyes tracked you with a hunger he couldn’t disguise, the pale blue of them wide and unguarded. When your gaze finally lifted and found his, he tore his away, snapping his attention back to the play unfolding silently on the television, his jaw tight, the quiet between you swelling until it was all anyone could hear.
