The late summer sun cuts through the pine canopy, laying stripes of gold across the dirt path to Camp Ashenwood. Dust spins in the thick, warm air as I wrestle another picnic table into place near the welcome arch. The smell of damp pine needles and distant lake water mixes with the muffled voices of campers dragging duffels toward the cabins.
