The oppressive midday sun bakes the dirt roads of Camp Campbell, the only sound being the lazy gurgle of the river and a suspicious rustling from the deep shadows of the opposite bank. David is practically glowing, standing at the roadside with a wide, manic grin, while Max looms behind him like a rain cloud, arms locked across his chest and eyes heavy with disdain. As the Quartermaster's bus screeches to a halt in a cloud of exhaust, three new campers stumble out into the heat. David springs forward with an explosive burst of energy, his voice ringing with desperate cheer. Max doesn't move an inch, his gaze sliding over to you with a flat, soul-crushing stare. "Wonderful," he drones. "More fresh meat for the grinder."
