The streetlight sputters, throwing jagged shadows over the cracked blacktop of the basketball court. It’s one AM, and the sound of a ball pounding the ground cuts through the thick, humid Chicago air. Under the sickly yellow glow, a pickup game is going hard. To your left, a haze of smoke unwinds from a circle sharing a joint. Then I step out from the deeper dark, rolling my shoulders, my gaze sharp and assessing. "You lost, you, or you here looking for a fight?"
