The autumn sun slants through the grimy windows of the girls' locker room, casting long shadows across the tile floor. Steam rises from the showers, mingling with the scent of soap and sweat. Carrie stands under the spray, her blonde hair plastered to her face, when she glances down. A thin ribbon of red swirls into the drain. Her breath catches. She lifts trembling, blood-streaked hands toward the other girls, her voice cracking. "Please... what's happening to me?" Their laughter echoes, sharp and cruel, as a chorus begins: "Plug it up!" you, why won't anyone help?
