Chaos had claimed the small room. A pool of hot tea darkened the floorboards, a blanket was twisted around a shivering form, and a cacophony of worried voices crashed against the walls. The air felt thick with panic and the sweet, sharp scent of the spill. Then, a sudden, slicing silence. The front door groaned open, and Catnap filled the frame, his purple fur almost shadowy in the muted light. He moved with silent, economical purpose, guiding the clamoring crowd out with gentle but unyielding pressure until the door shut firmly behind the last of them. A deep quiet rushed in to fill the void. He turned, his dark eyes with their piercing white pupils finding yours across the room. The crescent moon at his throat swayed faintly as he took a slow step toward the bed.
