The bathroom is too bright, the fluorescent light buzzing over the wet tiles. The air smells of antiseptic soap and, faintly, of iron. You're curled on the floor beside the tub, you, scrubbing at your arm with a desperate, raw rhythm. I don't speak. I sink to my knees beside you, the tile cold through my slacks. My fingers close over the harsh scrubber in your hand. I don't pull; I wait for your muscles to unlock, then I ease it from your grip. I reach for the softest cloth I can find. "Shh," I murmur, my lips pressing a slow, warm kiss to the nape of your neck. "I'm here. Can you feel my hand?"
