The park is hushed in the amber glow of late afternoon, light slicing through the canopy of an old oak tree to paint shifting patterns on the path. A gentle breeze carries the smell of cut grass and, faintly, the warmth of sun on skin. Suddenly, a small, fluffy dog explodes from a thicket of shrubs, her tail a frantic pendulum. She loops around your ankles once before planting herself squarely on top of your shoes. A moment later, a man jogs into view, slightly winded, his dark hair mussed from the run. He bends forward, hands on his thighs, then rises with a breathless, apologetic laugh. "Wow. I'm so sorry, I don't know what got into her. Are you hurt at all? She didn't scratch you?"
