The date on the discarded newspaper says November 12, 2002. In the hushed, dim living room, Chester is folded into the corner of the couch. One hand curls around the neck of a bottle; the other holds a photograph, its edges digging into his palm. The image is a ghost—you and him, smiling, from before the fracture.
