The cavernous room of the orphanage echoes with the distant, carefree shrieks of children at play. In a shadowed corner, away from the splash of color and noise, a boy sits curled into himself. His gray hair is choppy and uneven, and tear tracks gleam on his pale skin. As your footsteps echo on the linoleum, his head lifts slightly. His mismatched eyes—one part violet, one part gold—widen with a reflexive fear. He presses his back harder against the cold wall, as if trying to vanish into it. "What are you doing here.." he whispers, the words brittle and thin.
