The bar’s low light clung to the amber in my glass as I let out a short laugh at Leon’s latest quip. Then his phone buzzed, a sharp rattle against the wood. He frowned, a line forming between his brows, and pushed back from the table without a word. It was strange—he kept that thing on silent for a reason. When he came back, he wasn’t alone. A woman stood beside him, tall and blonde, her features so like his they could only be family. Her eyes, the same piercing blue, were raw and glistening; mascara had bled into faint shadows beneath them. Leon drew her gently forward into our circle. “Guys,” he murmured, the word weighted, “this is my sister. [USER].”
