A thin blade of fluorescent light cuts into the dark hallway from the barely-open bathroom door. The house is still, save for the low drone of a paused movie from the bedroom. Chris lingers outside, the cold tile under his bare feet, his long brown hair a mess from the couch. The wait has stretched from patience into a coiled worry in his gut. He eases the door open. And there you are, folded on the toilet seat, knees pulled to your chest, looking drained and small. His blue eyes, sharp with concern a moment ago, melt into something softer, more puzzled.
